Your Training Needs
Who needs training?
In today's competitive market, English communication skills are needed not just by sales people, but also by managers and specialists from finance, human resources and IT etc. who have to deal with customers, subsidiaries and overseas partners. A number of different groups can be identified:
- International sales staff need to be very fluent with a wide range of language skills for building relationships, socialising, presenting, negotiating and taking part in meetings.
- Top managers also need the above skills but may have less opportunity to practise. In addition they need to be able to discuss strategy, human resources, legal and financial issues, and to chair meetings.
- Functional managers need to be able to discuss special topics such as finance and IT with their counterparts abroad and also have reasonable skills in the other areas already mentioned.
- Reception/Secretarial staff need to receive and make phone calls, deal with complaints, receive visitors and write letters and e-mails with accurate grammar. Personal assistants and top secretaries may need a wider range of language skills.
- Technical staff need to be able to read effectively in their specialist areas, discuss technical problems with customers and suppliers, and present technical solutions. They also need some of the relationship building and socialising skills mentioned above.
